I'm turning into such a big Monte fan.
I think I'll always have Drew Estate cigars at the top of my list, because the Liga Privada T52 is probably my favorite cigar of all time, but I'll be damned if Montecristo doesn't have a cigar for basically every mood and state I am in. Just got up and sipping a coffee? White Series. Just had a small meal and now killing an hour before some afternoon plans? Classic Series. End of a day and just got done with dinner, now want to relax with a great, potent smoke? Monte. And now, after trying this Montecristo New York, I've found a really nice, perfect-medium cigar that fits with any occasion.
Let's be clear about one thing: this cigar is fat. It's a 6 x 60, so there is a lot there to enjoy. I smoked this cigar after a long day in between my jobs after I had eaten dinner. The predominant flavor from this cigar is leather. I know that certain sites will review it as fruity or chocolatey, things like that, but I got leather. It's similar to the taste that I get from a lot of the higher end cigars I smoke. It's a fine taste that I only get to experience once I venture out into the 12-13 dollar and up cigars. Maybe it's the quality of the tobacco that I am tasting, but that fine leathery taste surrounded by spice and coffee is what I crave, and it never fails to be delivered from offerings like this. It's not a cigar that's going to blow your head off, or one you'll taste all evening. It is a very nice medium with a flavor that is very enjoyable.
The draw off of the cigar I had was excellent. With larger cigars, I sometimes get a little skittish about their construction and I really try to take good care of them while smoking them. This cigar is durable and very well-built; the cap fell right off, the light was effortless, and I was able to put it down for quite a while without it going out and needing to be re-lit. I really enjoyed that I could put it down, do something else, and come back to it all toasty and still ready to be smoked. The smoke itself from this one wasn't too aromatic, but the construction was excellent and it did not threaten breaking apart or crumbling at any point.
This cigar is another big hit by Montecristo. I simply have never had a cigar in the Montecristo line that has been had. It's one of the only companies that I think has a cigar for every mood and occasion. This New York slots right in for those evenings where you're going to relax with a drink or a sports game and take some time away from life's responsibilities and stress. It is an hour and a half long experience that provides a great flavor and a body that isn't the least bit overwhelming for most smokers. I'd try one if ya see one out there!
Happy smoking! CB
